History.
The roots of this town date back to the late sixteenth century. Before that time, it used to serve as refuge to the Guanches, native Indians of the Canary Islands, who refused to yield to the will of Spanish conquerors. There still exist valuable archaeological evidence of those remote times such as Chiñama, La Jaquita and Tagoror del Rey necropolis caves, the latter found in the cliff of the same name.
